JATOBA a new gastronomy destination

An amazing team consistingof Manolo Costa (Queue de Cheval and Pois Penché), Nicolas Urli (Ha, Flyjin), Marco Benattar (Flyjin), Josh Silver, Antonio Park (Park, Lavenderia) with Alexandre Besnar and Patrick Hétu (A5 Management) are happy to present Jatoba, a Japanese tapas bar.

This new restaurant, located down town Montreal at the square Phillips, brings an London vibe to the city and offers a mix of Japanese and Chinese dishes. Kind of like, Zuma meets Hakkasan!

In the kitchen and on the table

Olivier Vigneault, originally from Quebec City, brings his accumulated experiences (internship at a French Michelin-star establishment, chef and co-owner of Yuzu in Quebec City, executive chef at Marabout and Miso and chef at Kaizen and Park), to serve you his “coups de coeur”.

A variety of Japanese and Chinese inspired dishes and tapas are offered, where flavors and originality offer each patron a unique culinary experience by playfully merging modern techniques with traditional essence.

"Mon coup de coeur" is the "black Cod with Jatoba Sake , sweet miso and gay lan steam" . The gai lan is a Chinese green broccoli dapper served crisp, which  contrasts nicely to the cod flakes that come apart with a fork.  It melts in your mouth. Delicious!!!

Let’s not forget Kimberly Estrada, the pastry chef who will impress the sweet tooth with her Délire au caramel.  This sort of decadent s'mores consists of a biscuit brown butter, a house with vanilla marshmallow, all soaked with dulce de leche pecan, with vanilla ice cream as a final touch!

A unique place

The talented Amlyne Phillips of La Chambre Design revamped the former Phillips Lounge.
The mastermind behind such places as Suwu, Apartment 200, L’gros Luxe (Plateau MontRoyal) and Namos, describes this new space as an "old industrial mansion, sophisticated and masculine".  It's  a unique environment, unmatched to what is currently being done in Montreal’s restaurant scene.

Jatoba  accommodates 100 guests indoors and 70 on the terrace (opening next summer). I'm looking forward to eat on that beautiful terrace when the sunny days will return :-)

The restaurant is large and spacious so there is plenty of space between tables, making it very comfortable.  I like the small bar near the entrance , it adds a dynamic atmosphere making it fun to stay for a drink (or two) after dinner.
