Ice Queen

Over the winter, I’ve been spending a lot of weekends up north in St-Donat with the whole family and it has been wonderful! It’s so quiet & peaceful, and there are plenty of activities to keep my daughters amused all day long! Though the cold is the ultimate excuse to stay inside and cozy up in the city, I always love to get outside, get moving, and have some fun with my fam! With all the great rinks around town, ice-skating has quickly become one of my/our favorite winter sports.

Beaver Lake and Bonsecours Basin are the two places that I love to skate at when it’s not too frosty out. Mont Royal is one of the highlights of living in Montreal, where you can enjoy almost every winter activity right in the heart of the city. This year, the rink on Beaver Lake was renovated and it’s better than ever! It tends to get packed on weekends, but my hubby, girls & I don’t mind the crowd. You might want to avoid going at peak hours if you need some private practice time though (#LOL)!

If you feel like taking in the views, Bonsecours Basin on the Quays of the Old Port is the perfect place to pop a pirouette. There’s great music playing that you can dance along to on the ice and they even have themed nights, like Romantic Tuesdays. You can skate & sip on mulled wine with a date while love songs play over the loud speakers! My hubby and I loved it and afterwards we went to warm up in the steam room, saunas, and hot tubs over at Bota Bota just a few steps away.

{-FREE for kids under 6 & for all every Saturday after 5pm-Prices: $6-adults, $4-kids aged 6-12, Free-kids under 6-Opening Hours: Monday-Wednesday 10am-9pm, Thursday-Sunday 10am-10pm – Info: (5140 496-7678}

You need to go up north to have a good time. There’s so much going on in the city this winter, from Fêtes des Neiges to Igloofest. If you’re feeling a cooped up from too many Netflix & Chill nights, put on your fur-lined jacket, mittens, and warm boots and head outside! I promise you’ll heat up the second you start gliding on the smooth surfaces of either of these rocking rinks! The skating season ends around mid-March and you can rent skates at either of these spots, so get out there before the ice melts and ruins one of winter’s pleasures.
