Top 5 Perfumes

I’ve had a few perfumes on my roster for years. So much so, that people associate me with certain scents. Because that’s the thing about perfume, it becomes a part of you. I remember how some people smell so much that if I smell that scent in their absence, it can evoke a memory in me. It’s kind of incredible if you think about it, the power of aromatic memory.

Certain fragrances go with different landscapes. I think we can all attest to that. We can smell coconut and be transported to a beach, or we can smell lavender and feel calm (cut to me rubbing lavender oil on my body before bed so I can get into relaxation mode!). Therapies have been developed based on this science and I for one, truly believe that it works. Smell is powerful, which brings me to another point – not all bodies are created the same. Some pheromones don’t blend well with certain smells, and so it’s important to find a smell that works for your body. Here are some of my favourites, some new, some classic, but all delicious.

Guerlain

Aqua Allegoria - Mandarine Basilic

Guerlain is one of my go-to brands. Whether it’s makeup or beauty essentials, I’m a serious Guerlain fan. The Aqua Allegoria Mandarine Basilic is one essential perfume that’s been on my roster for a while. It’s the essential scent that I spray daily. Mostly, and this might sound strange to non-avid perfume wearers, I wear the Mandarine Basilic during the day. It’s been part of the Aqua Allegoria collection since 1999 and has always been a bestseller. I’m also a major lover of the packaging with its delicate gold mesh refined bottle created as a tribute to the Bee.

Tom Ford

Eau de Soleil Blanc

Eau de Soleil Blanc by Tom Ford just reminds me of vacation. Pure and simple. I keep it in my cosmetic bag and I tote it around everywhere I go. I associate this perfume with feeling at peace because it is the scent I wear while I’m relaxing. It’s funny because the scent is actually branded as the summer smell, evocative of a remote private island. The scent is sexy and seductive and it has a floral undertone that gives it a faint sense of luxury.

P.S. It’s also a great gift!

Byredo

Rose of No Man’s Land

Byredo is a brand that I just love. There are no scents that feel wrong to me. However, there are some I like slightly more than others. The Rose of No Man’s Land is my newest obsession. I use it in the evening or when I go out for special events. It has such a powerful scent and is so unique in its blend. Rose of No Man’s Land was created as a tribute to selflessness and compassion; the name that was given by soldiers to the nurses who saved thousands of lives during WWI.

Anine Bing

Savage Rose

Anine Bing is just killing it lately. I need to get my hand son everything she puts out there and that includes Savage Rose (incidentally, maybe I’m going through a floral phase?). I spray this post-gym – it makes me feel fresh and light and I love that it’s an easy oil I can just roll on. Made from all natural and organic ingredients, it has a mix of roses, black pepper and musk – makes for a seriously intimate blend.

Zadig & Voltaire

Girls Can Do Anything

The newest addition to Zadig & Voltaire is their Girls Can do Anything perfume. I found it while I was in NYFW. I swear, the more I explore the brand the more I fall in love. The smell is urban and vibrant and since I wore it a tone during NYFW, every time I spray it, it brings me back to the energy of NYC. Zadig & Voltaire embodies a radiant new feminism… yes please!

So here’s one final thought I’ll leave you with: although I am a major online fashion shopper, I still do love shopping in stores, especially the ones that curate a relaxing shopping experience. But, that’s beside the point. The point I’m making is that perfume has to be bought in a store. You’ve got to try it on, feel the texture on your skin, smell the way it mixes with your composition and see how long you can walk around smelling like the thing you sprayed before it starts to potentially give you a headache! Lol! For real, you need to find a scent that feels like a natural extension to your smell. And so, I’ll leave you with these thoughts and if you ever need help finding the right smell for your look and lifestyle – hit me up! I’m kind of becoming a pro! Haha!
