hintercompany

Just when you think you know all there is to know about your hometown, a hidden gem is revealed and you get the chance to discover something extraordinary.

hinterhouse is just that. extraordinary. Simplicity at its most luxurious, hinterhouse is a design space hidden in nature. A unique cabin in the woods that makes you feel as though you’ve been transported to a magical treehouse.

I recently went out la conception with my photographer Patricia Brochu and Frank Lat, her partner at Duo-Tang Studio. We went on a simple retreat to discuss an upcoming project (stay tuned!) and we revelled in the minimalist architecture and design as we drifted into creative reverie inspired by abounding nature.

There’s something so incredible about driving a little over an hour out of our city and finding yourself in a Scandinavian getaway. Architect Ménard Dworkind (MRDK) did wondrous work with his execution of these zen-like glass cabins. Located lakefront, we took in the sights and sounds of the countryside as we disconnected and tuned into our bodies and minds.

The main idea behind the hinterhouse & hintercabins is to find peacefulness, tranquility and a space to allow creativity to flow. With 60% of the cabin made in glass, you honestly feel as though you are outside… it feels like time just slows down. A crackling fireplace, a waterfall, a forest; a colourful palette of wildlife.

With sustainability in mind, the hintercompany plants 10 trees with every booking made in collab with One Tree Planted. They also enlisted the design expertise of Alphabet furniture. Complimenting the scenery and natural landscape, the furniture took the whole picture into account as they created a space that endorsed mother nature in all its glory. You feel the aesthetic in the function and the function in the aesthetic: everything has its purpose and everything is beautiful.

You can really get into the minds of the people who made the hintercompany come to life. Every decision was consciously thought through: no curtains so light seeps through, non-motorized lake to enjoy the sounds of nature, and the Spa Scandinave around the corner to deepen your relaxation.

No distractions. Simplicity at its best – everything inspires you to find your inner peace and endless creativity. The perfect spot for a romantic getaway, weekend away with friends, or night on your own to reconnect. hinterhouse (hh1) and hintercabin (hc1) is more than a hotel, it’s a way of life.
