2 looks

The summer inspires me in a way that only the sun and heat can do. And, it’s a different kind of inspiration from the vacation looks I’ll create. When I know I’m hitting the beach for 10 days, I pack every sun dress and sandal that has been tucked at the back of my closet itching to be worn. But, summer in the city… that’s a whole other vibe.

I have some theories, but the truth is, only a city girl can intuitively tell the difference between street summer fashion and vacation looks.

Our summers are tricky, because we can go from 30 degrees hot and humid, to a break in sun that calls for layers and booties. It’s kind of what I love – the opportunity to wear absolutely everything! Zadig & Voltaire is honestly my go-to for a lot of essentials that quickly turn to classic faves.

I threw together two looks that play on colour, patterns and textures. Mixing things up and layering on. The dress (from Zadig & Voltaire) and blazer (Zara), create a look that is balanced. But, here’s the thing: it’s the oversized blazer that gives the contrast – playing on the feminine of the floral dress and truly pushing forward the reds and pinks that both pieces boast. I paired with a super pink Valentino purse, a strong black boot (Bara Buii from TNT), and my Patched hat, that all together play on the tension of feminine and street, slick yet chic.

The beige suit (also Zadig & Voltaire) look is super simple and straightforward, but it’s the fit that ties it all together. Suits can be tricky. Well, again, it’s the cut of the trouser and the fit of that perfectly tailored blazer that make it a knock out look. Whenever you pull on an oversized blazer, it’s so important to contrast the bigness (yes, it’s a word) with something softer and more slender. I brought in a colour play again with a coral Bottega Venetta purse, but I kept the suit and boot monochrome head to toe.

If it’s a silk slip dress (omg, Zadig & Voltaire have some stunning dresses for summer) or a full-on suit, the oversized blazer is a twist on a classic I just love and this summer it is a trend that you’ll see with everything from the oversized jean jacket to the oversized shirt.

The Zadig & Voltaire store in Westmount is holding a 40% off sale which means we can all hit the streets with that perfect street look this summer. See you there!
