Spring Fashion

If there’s one thing everyone should be wearing this spring, it’s pastels. That’s right, pastels are the new black. Here’s why…

What I love about pastels is their versatility and their richness. Whether a buttercream yellow acts as your main colour or your sky blue is an accent or maybe that baby pink is woven into that stunning floral pattern, pastels play so well with others.

Perhaps it’s because they are muted and easy on the eye, but the power of pastels is that no matter what you pair with lavender, coral, or seafoam, you create an outfit palette of depth and dimension.

I love a great floor-length cardigan. The LouLou Studio Bitra Cashmere cardigan in a lush, soft, lavender purple. Under a floor-length sky blue, lightweight Zara jacket, the two play well together, picking up on each other’s undertones.

What I did with this outfit is pull focus on the light pieces but bringing in bold, bright accent colours like my green Chanel purse and funky bright pink nails. Some added colourful detail in the @mademoisellejules necklaces, rings and earrings, and boots I snagged at ShopBop toward the end of winter.

An added layer to this outfit is the navy Patched hat. Again, bringing in brights, pastels, and darker tones to play together creates dimension. I love pastels for spring, but I’m not about overkill… it’s all about subtle pairings and finding nuanced ways to make each colour do its job.

Feminine, romantic, and finally free of being overly bundled, Spring pastels bring the promise of sunnier days and lighter moods. I love to find playful ways to mix my pastels with metallics, bold brights, or fun patterns like floral or stripes. That’s what spring fashion is all about, right? Mixing and layering with colour and lengths. So whether it’s that denim jacket and pastel mini dress or a t-shirt and jeans with a light oversized jacket, pastels are where it’s at!
