Paris City Guide

I was recently in Paris for a few days, and every time I come back, I fall in love all over again. There’s something timeless and magnetic about this city. The energy, the culture, the food, the fashion… Whether it’s your first visit or your tenth, Paris always has something new to offer. Here’s my guide to some of the places I loved this time around.
Where to Stay: Hotels in the 1st Arrondissement
I love staying in the 1st arrondissement when I’m in Paris. It’s right in the heart of the city, and everything I want to do—whether it's visiting a museum, shopping in the Marais, or grabbing a bite at a cute café—is within walking distance. It makes the whole trip feel effortless.
Here are a few of my favorite hotels in the area:
1. Le Roch Hotel & Spa
A small boutique hotel with a cozy, design-forward atmosphere. Tucked between Place Vendôme and the Louvre, it feels like a hidden gem. The interiors are chic and Parisian with a modern twist, and the spa is the perfect place to unwind after a long day of walking the city.
2. Le Voltaire
This stylish hotel is part of the Zadig & Voltaire universe, and you can feel that cool, rock-chic energy throughout the space. It's minimal yet elegant, and ideal if you’re into design, fashion, and a more low-key boutique vibe.
3. Mandarin Oriental, Paris
If you’re looking for luxury, this is it. The Mandarin Oriental blends Parisian elegance with contemporary design, and the service is flawless. It’s perfect for a romantic getaway or a treat-yourself stay.
4. Cheval Blanc Paris
Set within the former La Samaritaine building, Cheval Blanc is the ultimate in refined French luxury. The views of the Seine are stunning, and the interiors feel like a dream. Plus, it’s connected to some of the best shopping in Paris.
5. Hotel Regina Louvre
Classic, elegant, and right across from the Louvre. This hotel has a timeless charm and feels like a step back in time—in the best way. It’s family-friendly and incredibly central, with beautiful views of the Tuileries Garden.
Lunch & People Watching
One of my absolute favorite things to do in Paris is sit at a café, order something delicious, and just watch the world go by. Parisians have perfected the art of people watching—and their café terraces are designed for exactly that. Whether you’re in the mood for a chic lunch, a leisurely glass of wine, or a quick bite with a view, here are some of my go-to spots:
1. Hôtel Costes
Always a good time. The courtyard is iconic, the music is perfectly curated, and the people-watching is top-tier. A must for a fashionable lunch—or just soaking in that signature Paris vibe.
2. Marché Saint-Honoré
A lively square surrounded by cafés and restaurants. It’s less touristy and full of local charm. Great for a casual lunch in the sun with lots of people-watching action.
3. Les Deux Magots
An institution. Classic Paris. Sit outside with a croque-monsieur or salade niçoise and imagine you’re in a Hemingway novel. It’s always busy, always buzzing.
4. Loulou
Set in the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, this one is elegant and beautiful. The terrace overlooks the Tuileries Garden, and the food is just as pretty. A bit of a scene, in the best way.
5. L’Avenue
Glamorous and vibrant, just steps from Avenue Montaigne. If you’re lucky, you’ll spot a few familiar faces. The food is consistently great, and the terrace is made for people watching.
6. Carette
Perfect for a lighter lunch or an afternoon pastry. The Place des Vosges location is a personal favorite. Classy, calm, and ideal for observing the Parisian rhythm.
Pastries & Bakeries
I’m not a huge pastry person when I’m home in Montreal but when I’m in Paris, it’s a whole different story. The bakeries here are on another level. Everything is beautifully made, the quality is unmatched, and even the most simple croissant somehow tastes unforgettable. Whether you’re grabbing a quick pain au chocolat or looking for the perfect loaf of bread to bring back to your hotel, here are a few spots I always find myself returning to:
1. Cédric Grolet
A pastry artist, truly. Known for his sculptural fruit creations that are as delicious as they are stunning. If you want to be wowed by something beyond the classic viennoiserie, this is your place.
2. L’Éclair de Génie
Eclairs, reimagined. Bold flavors, vibrant colors, and the kind of treat you don’t forget. I love stopping here when I’m in the Marais—it feels like a little dessert gallery.
3. Cyril Lignac
A modern classic. His bakeries strike the perfect balance between traditional French pastries and fresh, creative updates. Don’t leave without trying the tarte au citron or pain au chocolat.
4. Poilâne
If you’re more into breads than sweets, Poilâne is a must. Rustic, soulful, and deeply Parisian. Their sourdough loaves are iconic, and their buttery apple tart is perfect with an afternoon espresso.

On the top floor of Printemps, this space is full of curated vintage and second-hand designer pieces. A true treasure hunt with an incredible view.

6. Walking with no destination
Honestly, my favorite activity. Paris is the best city to just wander with every street, courtyard, or café offering something to discover. No agenda, just inspiration everywhere.
Cafés
Paris is full of cafés that are perfect for catching your breath, getting a little work done, or just soaking in the city’s rhythm over a great cup of coffee (or matcha). I love trying a mix of trendy spots and timeless classics, each with its own vibe. Here are a few of my favorites from this trip:

One of the best ways to experience Paris is simply by walking. No agenda, no pressure, just wandering through beautiful streets and seeing where the day takes you. Every corner feels cinematic, and each neighborhood has its own unique vibe. Here are a few of my favorite places to explore on foot:

So classic and so chic. Between the cafés, bookstores, and small luxury shops, it’s a neighborhood that feels timeless—and very Parisian.

A Paris institution. They serve one thing and they do it perfectly: steak-frites with their secret sauce. No reservations, no menu stress. It’s simple, satisfying, and always hits the spot.
5. Alfred
Trendy and cool with a neighborhood feel. The food is Mediterranean-inspired with French finesse, and the crowd is stylish but relaxed. Great for a group or a casual-chic date night.
Shopping
Paris is a dream when it comes to shopping, whether you're hunting for emerging designers, luxury staples, or timeless French essentials. There’s inspiration everywhere, from iconic department stores to cutting-edge concept shops. Here are a few of my go-to spots:
1. Dover Street Market
If you love fashion that pushes boundaries, this is a must. A curated mix of high fashion, streetwear, and emerging designers in a space that feels more like an art installation than a store. Always something unexpected.
2. Galeries Lafayette
A Paris landmark and one of the best places for a little bit of everything - designer fashion, beauty, gourmet food, and more. Don’t skip the rooftop view, especially at sunset.
3. Le Bon Marché
Chic, curated, and beautifully Parisian. It’s quieter than other department stores, but that’s part of its charm. The food hall (La Grande Épicerie) is a destination in itself.
4. Avenue Montaigne
Luxury at its finest. From Dior to Chanel, this avenue is all about haute couture. Even if you’re just window shopping, it’s worth strolling through for the style inspiration alone.
For Trendy Style
In the Marais
If you love curated pieces, indie brands, and that effortless French-girl vibe, the Marais is the place to be. It’s where classic meets cool, and where you’ll find some of the most stylish Parisians shopping. These are some of my favorite boutiques when I want to discover new pieces and stay on top of what’s trending—without feeling overly commercial.
1. The Frankie Shop — Rue Saint-Claude
Minimalist with an edge. Think clean lines, oversized silhouettes, and neutral palettes. A go-to for elevated basics and standout staples.

A cult-favorite for a reason. Feminine, romantic, and Parisian through and through. Their flagship location is also super charming (and very Instagram-worthy).
3. Merci — Boulevard Beaumarchais
Part concept store, part fashion destination. Merci carries everything from trendy apparel to homewares and books. It’s the kind of store you walk into for a top and leave with a linen set, a notebook, and a candle.
4. Rouje by Jeanne Damas — Rue Vieille du Temple
If you love that vintage-inspired, flirty French style, Rouje is for you. Think wrap dresses, red lips, and the perfect denim.
5. A.P.C. — Rue Bachaumont
Effortlessly cool and super wearable. Known for quality denim and clean, timeless silhouettes. Great for both men and women.

A mix of cool, curated, and completely one-of-a-kind.

It’s a city that invites you to slow down, to explore with curiosity, and to enjoy the beauty in the details.
