Guerlain Makeup with Maxime Poulin

I had the amazing opportunity to have my makeup done by the one and only Maxime Poulin, OMG it was incredible!

For those of you who don’t know Maxime Poulin, he works as the Director of Training and Artistry (what a job!) at Guerlain, one of my favourite make up brands! I was so honoured to have a chance to sit in his chair, he has done makeup for some of the most famous people in Hollywood – Natalia Vodianova, Coco Rochas, Stacy McKenzie, Lara Stone, Meryl Streep (and the list goes on and on… seriously, check out his insta!). Up close and personal, he gave me custom advice on my skin type and ideal colour palette, but he also gave me such useful pro tips and tricks about how to apply makeup. Next time I’m at my makeup desk, I will most certainly be hearing his voice in my head (lol!).

For this look, we had a mission in sight: holiday glam using the Guerlain Electric Look palette. The colours are so out of my ordinary style, I was excited to see how he was going to apply the look. I had no doubt I was going to love whatever he did, but wow, he really gave me such a unique look. I can’t wait to replicate it!

Here’s the video for you all to enjoy.

For those of you who don’t have a pen handy, I took notes on some of the stuff you don’t want to forget. So, voilà! Maxime’s ten precious tips:

  1. When applying concealer, use just enough to cover. If you put on too much, you risk making your skin looking older. Maxime loves Precious Light because it isn’t too thick but still has great coverage.

  2. Foundation applies full coverage, but that doesn’t mean we should smear on too much. Just enough to retain the natural texture of your skin, leaving you dewy, luminous, and fresh.

  3. Lingerie de Peau can be used without a loose powder to set it, which is amazing for a natural look (Maxime used this one backstage for the shows he works).

  4. The famous 3: Bronzer should be applied to the temples, cheeks, and jaw. To create a guiding line, use the brush to find the centre of you iris, then apply the Terracotta bronzer outside of that line. Then for cheeks: find the line from your ear to the middle of where your lips meet, that’s where the bronzer goes.

  5. When applying face powders, use a brush and then your fingers to set the powder in. This allows the powder to look more natural.

  6. Eyes: Don’t be afraid of colour! The Electric Look palette is perfect for the holidays.

  7. When applying eye shadows, it is important not to push the brush in too much. Simply create little strokes and circles so the colour attaches to the skin in a controlled manner.

  8. Here is one I loved: use a brush to pull colour off the pencil eye liner Apply the liner in a back and forth motion. Maxime explained that you get more control this way, and I’ve tried it since, it’s true!

  9. How to find the perfect angle for your liner? Keep your eyes open and use the bottom lid as your guide for both angle and length of line.

  10. Last but not least, Meteorite Electric Pearl Powder accents your face and gives that glow JLo made famous!
