Orange Salad

This delightful Fresh Orange Salad brings a burst of citrusy sunshine to any gathering. If you're anything like me, hosting often means scrambling to prepare dessert. That's why this quick and delightful dessert has become my go-to choice for entertaining guests! Its vibrant flavours and minimal prep time make it a convenient yet impressive option for any occasion.

Oranges, rich in vitamin C, contribute to a healthy immune system and promote glowing skin, while the pomegranates add a dose of antioxidants that help combat inflammation and promote heart health. Pairing the juicy, gem-like pomegranate seeds with the oranges adds a delightful texture and a pop of colour, enhancing the overall appeal of this refreshing salad.

Orange salad

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 Whole oranges*

  • Remaining juices from the oranges

  • Seeds of ½ of one pomegranate

  • ½ Tsp. orange blossom water

  • Mint, to taste

  • Shaved dark chocolate**

NOTES:

*If you want to mix it up, feel free to use a variety of oranges such as blood oranges, clementines, or tangerines!

**Make sure to use dark chocolate with a cocoa content not exceeding 70% to avoid overpowering bitterness

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Begin by preparing the orange slices. Cut off the top and bottom of the orange, revealing the juicy fruit. Using a paring knife, carefully slice down the sides between the fruit and the pith, creating neat slices. Remove any remaining pith, and don't forget to save the natural juices from the orange for the dressing.

  2. Arrange the fresh orange slices on a serving plate.

  3. Next, make the dressing by whisking together the reserved orange juice and orange blossom water in a small bowl.

  4. Drizzle the dressing over the orange slices. Top it off with a garnish of fresh mint for an extra dash of colour and some shaved dark chocolate for a touch of decadence, and enjoy!*

NOTES:

*Chopped pistachios or cashews would be so pretty and a delicious addition.

If you want to make this dessert in advance, you can prepare everything in advance on the serving plate, however, I recommend dressing the orange salad just prior to serving. Dressing the oranges too much in advance will change the texture and flavour of the oranges.
