Top 5 Self-Tanners

Is there any better time than our extremely long winter season to get your spray on? Whether you’ve been away and want to extend the life of your tan, or if you haven’t had a chance to get away and want to feel sun-kissed, there’s a simple solution. Self-tanner. Here’s my list of top 5:

Josie Maran

Liquid Gold Self-Tanning

Ultra-hydrating and nourishing, Josie Maran’s Argan Liquid Gold Self-Tanning Oil gives that luscious caramel colour for an all-over beach look. Infused with argan oil, coconut water and aloe vera, this oil has a yummy scent that transports you to the beach. What I love most is that it’s easy to apply, scent-free and vegan with a natural DHA derived from sugared beets. So here’s a pro tip: apply all over with a mitt, wait 10 minutes and smooth again - always buff the elbows and knees for streak-free results. It takes about 4 hours to fully set so why not take a minute to hand wash your mitt keeping it clean and ready for your next application! Watch this video on how to apply, and watch out for a secret tip at the end (watch video here).

Vita Liberata

Advanced Organics pHenomenal

So each company has their own approach to beauty and the technology they bring to their products. That’s what makes the industry so fascinating. The Vita Liberata Advanced Organics pHenomenal 2-3 Week Tan Mousse is incredible. I’m a fan of sprays, but I find for at-home application, the foam approach works slightly better. Another added feature to this tan in a bottle is that it’s certified organic and is infused with anti-aging skin enhancements… sign me up!

Luna Bronze

Flow Gradual Tanning Moisturizer

The Flow Gradual Tanning Moisturizer by Luna Bronze creates a natural-looking tan gradually. There is a simple procedure to follow: apply to clean, dry skin; allow to dry fully before getting dressed; and, exfoliate once a week for best results. Enriched with Vitamins A, B & E to help the texture of your skin and keep you hydrated. Oh, and it’s also lemon and orange blossom scented, which is a major plus!

St Tropez

Self-Tan Classic Bronzing Mousse

I think the name says it all – St Tropez Self-Tan Classic Bronzing Mousse. Evoking the sexiest of sunshines, St Tropez is known for that glowing, bronzed skin, so why not bottle it up!? What I love most about this tanning mousse is that it last long. Most self-tanners last because you need to reapply to develop the colour, but with this bronzing mousse, it lasts 10 days with one simple application.

Bioderma

Photoderm Self-Tanner

The perfectly even tan every time, Bioderma’s Photoderm Self-Tanner helps protect against the harmful effects of the sun using their patented technology Cellular Bioprotection. Their spray is like a gentle mist and builds the moisture level of your skin with every application. It’s important with sprays to hold the bottle at least 20cm from your skin – that’s what will allow for the perfect tan every time.

There are a few things to note if you’re going to venture into the world of self-tanning. First, always wear mitts. If you don’t, then wash your hands immediately! But, aside from the messy hands, mitts also allow for a better overall application – more even and streak-free. Another thing to note, is the exfoliation step. Not to be taken lightly, exfoliating helps the skin stay soft, smooth and shiny. Have any self-tanning questions or tips? Send them along! I’m always looking for the next best beauty product
