Summer Escape

When I close my eyes and take a deep meditative breath, my body and mind are naturally transported to my summer escape. My chalet up north.

Every weekend, my family heads up north to our country house for some time together away from the city. I’ve been in this routine ever since I was a child, a tradition that I loved so much, I knew it was something I would do when I had a family of my own.

Whenever I am up at my chalet, it’s like all the noise and bustle of city life just fades away. Into the forest and nature we go and that is where my mind stays all weekend. It is such a comfort knowing that barely an hour or so away from our city home, we have this escape by the beach that acts as our oasis.

Whether I’m running through nature’s path or sunbathing on the dock (not typically being photographed by a drone, but in this case, why not!?), summer life up north offers me a relaxation I can’t get anywhere else. In fact, the only other time I feel this relaxed is when I am at a spa, but this retreat is just a life of its own.

With a beautiful lakefront beach and quiet surroundings, we hear everything from birds chirping in the morning to the wind and waves blowing by. I can spend hours on the dock just looking out and clearing my mind – a technique that sounds easier said than done.

It’s been a hot minute since we’ve been able to travel and see new life around the world. Planning vacations and trips is one of my favourite things as it’s a way to look forward to many of the world’s wonders, but I have to say, cutting back and just living the simple life here in our local beauty of a city, I have really had the great privilege of realizing just how spectacular my own backyard really is. From city to country and back again, my weekends are truly my summer escape…
