Sugar Shack in Old Montreal

Going to a sugar shack every winter is a Canadian tradition that my family and I absolutely love to take part in year after year. Thanks to Un Chef à l’Érable in the Old Port, there’s no need to drive way out of the city to enjoy all of our favorite maple infused foods! 

For the third year in a row, the owner of restaurant Chez l’Épicier, chef Laurent Godbout, has brought all the charm of beloved sugar shacks to the Scena on the Jacques-Cartier Pier. His blend of traditional classics with international influences resulted in an ultra unique and creative menu that I can’t stop raving about! 

Some of my favorite dishes were the devilled eggs with smoked salmon over maple wood. I also loved the caramelized squash, labneh, quinoa, herbs and olive oil. Both these dishes were super refined and distinctive in taste and flavor. I’m not a big fan of meat, but the cauliflower with maple sausage was out of this world! I highly recommend finishing you meal with the “Creclair” with praline cream and maple-it was to die for!

The bright space overlooking the water is beautifully decorated with suspended umbrellas, lanterns, and warm wooden accents. Like most sugar shacks, you’ll be sharing long communal tables with other maple enthusiasts just like yourself! My girls loved trying everything on the menu and this spot is super kid friendly, so bring the whole family for a fun-filled afternoon!

Don’t miss your chance to taste these extraordinary dishes! Catch the Friday and Saturday dinner service at 7pm or head over for Sunday lunch at 1pm from now until April 17th! The five-course meal is $63 for adults and $20 for kids (not including taxes). Parking is a breeze at the Quai de L’Horloge, so go ahead and reserve your spot before the season’s over!
