J.CREW presented its fall/winter 2017 men’s and women’s collections at Spring Studios on February 12th and I was beside myself when I received and invitation. Needless to say I was beyond excited to attend their presentation because I love J.Crew and I shop there regularly for myself and my kids. You have to shop their collection online in Montreal, but it is definitely one of the first places I go to when I am in Miami or New York.

The formula of the show was amazing!! Something I have never seen or experienced before. J.Crew casted friends of the brand to display their collection. They weren't just standing there like wax figures in a museum, but talking amongst themselves. We had the opportunity to touch the fabrics, take as many pictures as our heart desired and even interview them. Their ages ranged from 9-67 and included some colorful people such as Whoopi Goldberg's granddaughter, comedian Sandra Bernhard  and Taylor Tomasi Hill. One of my favorite looks was on the daughter of Julianne Moore and I adored the fact that I could identify with real people, from all ages, shapes and nationalities. I could finally see the clothes on a body that was similar to mine.

My favorite look of all !!!

My favorite look of all !!!

The brand really outdid themselves this year and I fell in love with many of their looks. One in particular was their mixed prints looks. A striped shirt with a camouflage vest, a leopard purse and a tulle skirt! I would not have paired these pieces together but the result was outstanding!!!

Which brings me to their fall/winter 2017 collection, the designers themselves described their look and ideas so well that I will let them do the talking:

Women's

“A combination of old and new schools…old school as in nods to classic Scottish symbols—tartans and plaids, kilts, the Queen’s holiday home of Balmoral Castle—and new school as in vibrant colors, camouflage and tulle-covered silhouettes. We also wanted to bring back some of our heritage pieces and pair them with things that would make them feel fresh again—things like furry accessories and floaty ball skirts.”

—Somsack Sikhounmuong, women’s designer

Men’s

"The overriding idea of this collection was to put a contemporary twist on our heritage. So we’ve taken some of our classics that date back to 1983—a rugby shirt, corduroy, the little woodland animals on ties and shirts, which we call ‘critters’—and then combined them with wide-leg pants, raw denim and technical athletic wear. It’s heritage rebooted."

—Frank Muytjens, men’s designer

One of my favorite look!

The J.Crew fall/winter 2017 show was definitely the highlight of NYFW in my opinion and I was thrilled to meet Jenna Lyons who is the creative director and president of J.Crew might I add. It was also a pleasure to be surrounded by the elite in the fashion industry such as Elaine Welteroth (Teen Vogue editor) and let's not forget the designers, the biggest bloggers, the models, actors, and the list goes on.

In conclusion, I was blown away by their collection, the formula they executed so flawlessly and the fact that J.Crew made interacting with inspiring people so accessible. Each look was more impressive then the other.

What you wear is how you present yourself to the world, especially today, when human contacts are so quick. Fashion is instant language.
