Suit Up

Every woman should rock a suit every once in a while. There is something so fierce and sexy about the evocative image of a woman in full pants and blazer—whether it’s a bandeau underneath, a lace cami, or a shirt—the suit look is yet another way to express your sense of personal style. I love the full monochrome suit; something about a soft tone from top to bottom gives that elongated silhouette that no other outfit can deliver. I’ll often mix and match as well, a hound’s-tooth blazer with black trouser for example. Perfect for a work day or a daytime meeting.

I’ve invested in a few suits, but something about this Maska Mode beige suit makes it one of my all-time favourites. It has such a flattering fit and makes me feel even more feminine than a tight mini dress! Oversized or slim-fitting, the suit maintains its feminine edge because it transcends the expected form a woman is typically adorned in and gives her an added character.

The classic trend has been reinterpreted in a plethora of ways. From velvet, more wintery looks and the rock ‘n’ roll bell bottom trouser to cut-out or cropped blazers, the look is versatile and can be dressed up or down for any occasion. For some women, the suit vibe has become a signature look – I’m always reminded of Diane Keaton and how feminine she makes the whole androgynous suit look.

I nabbed this two-piece from Maska Mode’s private label. Their boutiques have a plethora of fashion-forward looks that sit like butter on my skin. I love sifting through their racks and getting that personal shopping experience every time I walk in there. I first tried the blazer on with jeans, and then tried the pants on with a simple tee. I pulled it all together and instantly saw the versatility of the look – I had to have it!

Floral, striped, leopard or monochrome, a suit tells the tale of a strong, bold, and adventurous woman who knows what she wants and isn’t afraid to show it. The kind of woman who takes fashion risks and likes to make a statement. You don’t have to be in the fashion world to indulge in a little playful experimentation with your wardrobe, all you need is the desire to explore all of the wonderful possibilities of how clothes can express all of the beautiful parts of what makes you who you are. A loose-fitting, plunging neckline, cream-coloured two-piece tells the world that I’m comfortable with in my skin and I’m not afraid to show it! What do your clothes say about you?
