That Winter Feel

Whether it’s that perfect fall jean jacket or that indispensable pair of summer sandals, every season has its fashion must-haves. Probably one of my favourite winter fashion staples is that perfectly feminine, perfectly warm faux fur coat. And, lucky for me, this season, faux fur has been a hard-hitting trend.

Aside from the obvious reasons why a long, draping, glamorous black fur coat is a winter essential, there’s also the functional fact that fur, even if faux, is so warm! There’s something about -20 degree weather that has turned a blanket into a jacket and I like it! Also, if you’re going to cover up a great outfit, better to cover it up with an even greater coat!

I chose a black coat for this season. Last year I went with a floor-length red puffer, but this year I thought I’d go more understated. Anine Bing created this luxurious and sophisticated coat that basically goes with anything, available at TNT Fashion. I could be out in sweats and feel like a movie star. I would say that the Sasha has made this winter slightly more bearable.

The thing about winter is that it lasts forever. We have our coldest months, but even the warmer ones can be quite freezing. Fortunately for me, I grew up spending weekends up north on the ski slopes and enjoying other amazing winter activities. It helps make the winter more fun. I also love spending a cozy weekend indoors, nestled by the fire, looking out into the streets and seeing all beautiful and enchanting white wonderland.

Every couple of years I invest in a new pair of Uggs. I like to have the lining fresh and fluffy for optimal warmth. This season, I also opted for a shearling-style Chanel purse. It evokes winter in that reminiscent woolly material and of course the colours are such a perfect palette of winter basics. My hat was from the H & M x Giambattista Valli collab.

I know winter can be trying for some. Higher cases of depression, social isolation, colds, flus and other health situations take us Canadians by storm (no pun intended). I am no exception – I get more migraines and sometimes just don’t want to leave my house because it’s just too cold or sopping wet out there. But, I have to say, if one thing makes it all a little more fun, it’s the fabulous fashion and creative ways we can dress up to both stay high-fashion and highly warm!
