Michael Kors Collection

I remember last year, attending the Michael Kors fashion show at New York Fashion Week – I remember the feeling I had pulsing through my body of both excitement and sheer joy – I remember the incredible sensation of being part of this moment in fashion history. For most, I get it, fashion is what we wear, it’s what we shop for, it’s what we look at in magazines. But for others, like me, it’s a lifestyle.

I think that’s why I like to indulge in a little dress-up therapy. I know it’s totally random to throw on the most stunning crepe dress and 4-inch western boot if I’m not traipsing about town hitting meetings and fashion shows, but I am so tired of throwing on the old sweat suit! I have to say, it felt really good pulling an outfit together, curating pieces that accent in just the right way and twirling about for the camera.

We all have our thing – I love the mood boards and playing with fabrics. I love walking into a brick-and-mortar store and physically feeling the textures and overlaying patterns. I hot up Michale Kors Collection and tried on dresses in front of the mirror and imagined all the fun places I could go in that perfectly studded purse… I mean, it’s the kind of imaginary our kids play in and I guess you could say that I never grew up!

Let’s talk trend watch for a sec, because that hand-knit cotton blend fringed cardigan is basically what dreams are made of. Soft and cashmere, it plays so well with the long speckled pony print silk crepe shirtdress – creating a contrast of feminine and western, chic and sharp. I love the Micki fringed suede boot to really amp up the western vibe, but the Mount Royal Belvedere Observatory creates the perfect juxtaposition as it highlights the city landscape.

Fall season could go many ways, but streamlining for that back and white look accented with fringe and studs is a nice balance of editorial meets street. Sometimes it’s about colour and other times it’s about patterns, layers and hardware. It’s about the right outfit at the right time in the right place, and oh what I would give to be walking the streets of New York City right about now! Maybe if I keep twirling I’ll be transported away!
