TOP TEN KITCHEN TOOLS

When you’re in the kitchen you need to move with efficiency. That’s why I want to share all my kitchen hacks, because it makes life behind the counter that much more fun. So if you’re more of a traditional kitchen maid, this may not be for you, but if you want to modernize your family’s gathering spot… read on! Here’s my take on every kitchen’s must haves. Here’s a hint: when it comes to hacks, the more the merrier!

1. Avocado cutter | 2. Weck Jars | 3. Lemon Squeezer | 4. Teumi Milk Frother | 5. Pantry Jars | 6. Cookie scoop | 7. Marinade brushes | 8. Glass Measuring Cup | 9. Fat separator | 10. Herb-cutting scissors

At one point in my life I may have fought off an avo slicer, but now I realize a knife will never do what a quick snip with an oxo cutter can do, am I right? Same goes for the KithenAid citrus squeezer. I mean, I can definitely slice a lemon or lime in half and squeeze with my fisty might, or I can pop it into a tool and press lightly. No fuss, no muss! So whether it’s cutting herbs more efficiently with the Joyodelf scissors, slicing you avocado, or squeezing your citrus, I’m telling you, there’s a hack for that!

Then there are those times when I’m making a slow-cooking meal, something that requires me to tend to the cooking process. On those days, of course I’m committed to being in the kitchen, so the hacks are not for speed but more for efficiency. Like the Oxo Good Grips Gravy Fat Separator. I mean, I could stand there with a spoon, removing out fat one ladle at a time, or I can pour and walk away.

I love using the right tool that the recipe or process asks for. Like a proper cookie scoop or a basting brush. My favourites are the Oxo Good grips cookie scoop for perfectly measured cookies every time (so they all bake evenly!) and the RWM Basting Brush, perfect for barbecue season and year-round pastry baking. I also love a good measuring cup, and the Anchor Hocking one comes with a built-in pouring system and a cap so you can measure, pour, shake, and store.

We’ve all become at-home baristas, especially these past few years. I don’t mind popping in a capsule every once in a while, but if I’m honest, I love the process of making coffee. Listening to the drip, watching it fill the cup, and taking in the aroma – I feel like a Folger’s commercial! – but it’s true. Nothing wakes you up like the yummy smell of coffee. I love warming up my own milk with a handheld milk frother, but here’s the hack – I actually use the Teumi Milk Frother to make salad dressings!

Last but not least, the neatly organized kitchen. A pantry only dreams are made of. The Weck Mold Jar combo is great for packing away leftovers or storing food in your cupboards. Complete with an afternoon of labelling, pantry jars are great for pastas, rice, cereal, grains, flours, sugar, and anything other dry food you keep in bulk. Each of these hacks is meant to help you up your kitchen game, because these hacks are all game-changers!
