H&M x lemlem

Like all good fashion lovers, when a great collab comes along, I get super charged and excited to sink my teeth into everything from the inspiration to the designs, the collection and how to style the pieces.

Casual and chic, lemlem is the entrepreneurial fashion baby of Ethiopian model Liya Kebede. Creating lemlem for the simple reason of wanting pieces that can be worn with ease for all occasions, she pulled together dresses, swimwear, kaftans and other essentials from sustainably sourced materials that still feel super-duper soft to the touch.

Lemlem has a creative spirit that can be felt throughout the collection and the collab with H&M is no different. It engages with so many communities and fashion styles and definitely feels like something new. Perhaps it is because of the materials used, the reasons behind the pieces or the simple and easy way they are all styled, but there is something worth celebrating here.

Inclusive and rich with history, lemlem is not about business first, as Kebede has been quoted saying, it’s more about giving back and sustainability. Always original and focused on telling the story behind the style, lemlem is truly onto something special.

I fell in love with the muted tones that play so beautifully with brighter yellows. The Bright blue bikini top and bottom feels like what vacation dreams are made of. Pulling together a lightness that steers us away from the heaviness of this past year, the lemlem x H&M collab is about soft materials that make you feel comfortable. The textures are adorning and legit, you will pull the kaftan or Lyocell-blend shirt (similar to the cover-all linked here and here) on and never want to take it off.

The beach accessories like the Fringed beach towel in blue are a summertime must have. Throw it into your Large canvas shopper and you have the perfect carryall for a full day of laxing around in the sun.

So many fashion brands are born daily and I love the passion designers and entrepreneurs have to keep contributing something new to the fashion world. Lemlem is one of those unique brands that has some serious lasting power. The collab is a testament to Kebede’s style and culturally in-tune eye, creating pieces we need and made with care.
