MLLE JULES TURNS 6

When I first started Mlle Jules, it was intended to get my brain working again. I had become a mom twice over and as my second daughter entered daycare, I found I had free time on my hands and I needed an outlet of some sort. Originally, my blog was about food and lifestyle – as someone who built her entire career in the food industry at Pain Doré, I knew a thing or two about food. It seemed like the easiest go-to. But, as my blog grew, so did my passion for fashion, and that’s when things moved in the direction of clothing, beauty, and other fashion brands.

Well, as my blog turns 6 years old, it’s interesting to note that although I still have a strong inclination for all things fashion related, I have come back to where it all began: food and lifestyle. My focus has shifted inward a little more as my blog has become a sort of shared virtual journal; a way for me to safeguard all of the things I love and share it all with my audience.

There is so much to be grateful for in my line of work and I want to take a quick minute to outline my appreciation. Yes, it started out of boredom, but it has become the thing that gives me drive. It’s a space for me to be myself, cultivate interests, quench my curiosity and find what inspires me. it’s my own personal world and I choose how much I want to give to it and how much I want to get out of it. And that’s the thing I’ve come to love the most: when I want to amp it up. I can and when I need to scale back, I do. It’s my platform, I can do what I want with it! That kind of freedom is something I am always thankful for!

I am so incredibly happy to look back over the past 6 years and take a second to think about how far I’ve come. I went from a one-person show to a 4-person operation. I have my fantastic photographer Patricia Brochu who has been with me since the beginning, my assistant who puts in about 5-10 hours a week to help do some of the logistical stuff and kind of learn the lay of the influencer land, and my copywriter who helps me organize my thoughts and keep my English top notch. I celebrated my 6th anni by baking a cake with my daughter, sipping Prose vodka, a local brand of gluten-free vodka naturally made with purple sweet potatoes (yes please!), and taking a deep breath as I spread infinite gratitude to everyone who has helped me along the way.

I’ve taken my love for food, fashion, beauty and lifestyle and parlayed it into a career that I am so proud of. I’ve focused more and more on sustainable products, clean/green beauty and of course, local talent, local boutiques, local brands, because at the end of the day, I want to support my city and return all the love it has shown me over the years. Thank you Montreal, thank you to all the brands I’ve discovered, thank you to all the brands I’ve had the opportunity to work with, and thank you to all my readers and supporters – THANK YOU!
